Building Relational Power

ACT teaches the community development model pioneered by the Industrial Areas Foundation over 60 years ago.

All learning is based on the “Iron Rule” – never do for someone what he or she can do for themselves.

To create relational power, congregations work with professional organizers and senior ACT leaders in

  • Develop congregations
  • Identify and train leaders
  • Reach out to surrounding communities
  • Plan strategic actions to benefit the community
  • Creatie “Public Friendships” in a diverse environment
  • Build a culture of reflection on faith traditions and values

A.C.T. Members Contribute

Each ACT member institution builds power four ways:

  1. BUILD a Congregational Organizing Team
  2. CONTRIBUTE dues to finance organizing and training
  3. PARTICIPATE in the ACT Organizing Council, regional clusters and the clergy caucus
  4. TAKE OWNERSHIP of the vitality of its surrounding community
